Anyone who’s followed me or my work over the past decade or so knows that I’m a sucker for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. For years, the annual event was my version of Christmas combined with my birthday and the Super Bowl; I’ve flown across the Atlantic with the Angels twice and have tracked rookie models with the precision of a data scientist.

But as the 2010s came to a close, it became clear that culture had moved on while Victoria’s Secret stayed stagnant. Innovative brands like Parade, SKIMS, and Savage X Fenty captured the attention and market share of discerning young lingerie customers. At the same time, reports emerged regarding the toxic, misogynistic company culture at Victoria’s Secret, leading the Chief Marketing Officer of VS’s former parent company L Brands, Ed Razek, to resign in 2019. (Not to mention the ties that Les Wexner, then-CEO of L Brands, had to Jeffrey Epstein.)
